Howdy friends,
I genuinely cannot believe I am here writing my 2025 2026 winter guide… SERIOUSLY. It feels like just yesterday I was out licking icicles, making honey/maple syrup taffy on fresh snow, freezing my arse off, eating it on the slopes, catching snowflakes on my tongue, getting high off Christmas trees scents, and getting dazzled by every holiday light and display in sight... basically overdosing on holiday & seasonal magic. And what gets me every single year is how the magic never fades, no matter how many times this cycle repeats.
Fall is officially over around December 21-22, but for the sake of convenience & the holidays, I will transfer over any December events & happenings from my fall guide over to this winter guide.
Side note: I’ve been getting the biggest kick out of watching people spiral over the possibility of not getting enough snow this year for winter sports and activities. Would it make a difference to let you know that I’m one of those people? LOL. Keep those snow dances coming, friends.
If you know anything about me, you know I am completely obsessed with the everyday magic of life. Now imagine that obsession multiplied during the holidays. One of the wildest mindsets I have ever come across is when people say they are bored or say that Reno sucks. This post is not about proving anyone wrong. It is about shining a light on all the events, experiences, attractions, and small joys they may be overlooking. Once you open your eyes and lean into exploration and opening your mind to different perspectives, you may start to realize that there's more magic in life than you ever imagined.
At any time during the winter season, you may come across carolers spreading cheer with their lovely voices, acts of kindness, neighbors going all out in transforming their homes into breathtaking Christmas scenes, and restaurants enticing us with delectable holiday offerings. Not to mention the pop-up shops, holiday vibes, atmosphere, excitement & buzz, one of a kind activities & experiences, cozy fire pits, and the community that contribute a great deal in all of this magic.
As if Reno weren't enough, our neighboring towns - Lake Tahoe, Sparks, Carson City, Genoa, Truckee, & Virginia City (to name a few) are all part of the same festive club, collectively elevating the holiday spirit to its grandest.
Below, I’ve put together a list of holiday activities and events happenings in and around Reno. You’ll find a mix of exciting new events and beloved traditions to help you plan the most wonderful holiday season. This guide is here to help you soak up as much holiday magic as possible… just try not to lick any metal poles this year on a dare because I am not coming to rescue you. (Just in case you really get into trouble, just wait a moment and the ice will eventually start melting. Don't ask how I know this, LOL. If you end up ripping your tongue a little anyway, just know that it's one of the fastest healing parts of the body. Double LOL).
Whether you prefer staying in town or venturing out to nearby areas, you will discover an abundance of activities to enjoy, both near or far. You just may end up finding yourself overwhelmed with so much to do and so little time to conquer it all. I know...good problems.
Wishing you and your loved ones a holiday season packed with joy, excitement, and plenty of fond memories.
P.S. Follow me on Instagram @lovingreno775 for more gems, events, & happenings that not have not yet made it onto the blog.

Pie Love
Big shout out to Colton & Chef Jason of Silver State Pie Co. for making extraordinary pies & sharing them with the community. Seriously, find these humans a.s.a.p. & try out their outrageously delicious sweet & savory pies.
P.S. They always have a vegetarian/vegan option on hand.
ALPINE NUTRITION
I have to give mad props to this business, as it's run by one of the kindest and most hardworking families who, I’m certain, are inspiring the community. If you look closely, you’ll see that they not only talk the talk but also walk the walk. Usually, people associate healthier alternatives to more calorie dense drinks with being nasty, but nope... not in this case.
P.S. Ask these guys for some workout tips while out on a food run. They know their way around the gym.

| Old World Coffee Roasters always does a fun and festive holiday menu. |
We’re so lucky to have so many amazing and unique local coffee shops that add so much character to our city. These places are run by passionate people who genuinely love what they do and aim to brighten your day. With all the different styles and flavors to choose from, I can’t help but feel spoiled. Honestly, can you imagine our city being taken over by faceless coffee chains? Sounds like a freaking Twilight Zone episode to me.

Support Local & Celebrate Community
I love showcasing local businesses. It’s one of my favorite things to write about here on the blog.
Why support local?
Because these businesses are run by our neighbors, friends, and family. These are people pouring their hearts into what they do, creating amazing, unique products and services that add so much character to our community. Not to mention the fact of how they keep more money in the community and contribute/donate more to local causes.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky to meet some truly inspiring business owners. They’re bold, brave, and proof that following your dreams is always worth it. Honestly, they inspire me to keep chasing my own dreams every single day. Sure, life can feel terrifying sometimes, especially when paving your own. It isn’t exactly easy. But when you follow what’s in your heart, you'll find that there’s no other way to live.
If you have a favorite local spot or an incredible experience with a small business, I’d love to hear about it. Connect with me on Instagram so we can celebrate the people who make our community an amazing place to call home. When we support local, we’re really supporting each other. ❤️

Carson City
Carson City has so much going for itself. First of all, it’s Nevada’s capital, our state government was born and still operates here, which means it’s packed with history, character, and culture. The city is full of beautiful structures in a variety of styles: Victorian, Neoclassical, Colonial Revival, and more. There are so many fun traditions (a few of which I’ll list below), and perhaps my favorite part of all, pure Nevada pride.
On top of that, Carson City has breathtaking mountain and alpine views and sits conveniently between Reno and South Lake Tahoe. You’ll find some of the cheapest gas around, hot springs, awesome museums, some of the nicest locals, and so much more.
I’ll never forget taking my friends from out of town to the Silver and Snowflakes tree lighting at the Capitol Building one year. I distinctly remember them shouting, “Now this is Christmas!” as they hopped on a free sleigh ride, snowflakes falling on their heads, with local school choirs singing carols and lighting up the entire scene with holiday cheer.
I LOVE Carson City, and I know you will too.

Truckee
O Truckee… this little town sits snuggly alongside Highway 80, only 40 minutes from Reno, and it features off the charts views and vibes that always put a huge goofy smile on my face. You know that feeling when you're standing in front of a waterfall, instantly happier for no logical reason whatsoever? That is exactly how I feel about Truckee.
Even though it is practically a tourist attraction with boutique shops and pricier than average dining, I will always make the trip just to be surrounded by the views, the vibes, and the history of the place. The main strip is adorbs, the events are genuinely epic, the building are straight out of a storybook. Plus, a train and river that run through town, creating an aesthetic that really feels like it's out of a dream. And the ski resorts... 7 within 7-13 miles to be exact, and Donner Lake, which is a whole adventure of its own. It's almost rude how perfect this place is.

Incline Village
I cannot even count how many times I have driven up to Incline Village, sometimes on autopilot, almost like something is calling me back for adventure and fresh air. One of the best parts about living in Reno is how close we are to towns with their own scenery and magic, and Incline Village is one that always feels special the moment you arrive. Towering pine trees, the deep blue shimmer of Lake Tahoe, peaceful small town charm, local cafes, lakefront paths, hidden beaches, snow covered trails, and community events all make this area feel warm, welcoming, and naturally beautiful. It's much calmer than South Lake and offers a strong community, a touch of prestige, and endless things to do from Sand Harbor to Lakeshore Drive. No matter how many times I visit, Incline Village always takes my breath away and remains one of the most treasured places near Reno.

A fun and festive holiday activity that is guaranteed to lift your spirits is exploring holiday decorations and light displays around town. The best part is it is basically free entertainment.
Bundle up, pile everyone into the car, grab your favorite hot drinks, and dive into a holiday tradition that is all about making memories.
The spots listed below are some of my absolute favorites to visit every year. For an extra touch of seasonal magic, tune into a Christmas radio station and let the holiday soundtrack carry you through the lights and festive cheer.

This is one of the biggest and most well known displays in the area. In October, they host a popular free backyard haunt packed with decorations, scares, and excitement. Their Christmas display is just as fun and impressive as the haunt, but without the scares. Instead, you will find an impressive synchronized display, Santa Claus, tons of excited visitors, and plenty of holiday cheer. Check the flyer for the schedule to see when Santa will be making appearances.
This family contributes so much to the community every year and appreciates every food and monetary donation from the community.

Snowshoeing Around Reno & Tahoe
Snowshoeing in the Reno-Tahoe area is one of the best ways to enjoy winter without needing technical skills or expensive equipment. Lower elevations closer to Reno sometimes have lighter snowpacks, but once you head up Mt. Rose Highway or toward Lake Tahoe, you’ll usually find deep, consistent snow and beautiful winter scenery. Many trails here are beginner friendly with packed paths, while others offer steeper terrain and longer backcountry style routes for more experienced adventurers.
Best Places to Snowshoe Near Reno
Galena Creek Regional Park
A close to town favorite with easy to moderate trails winding through forested areas. Great for beginners, families, or anyone wanting a peaceful snow day without a long drive.
Thomas Creek Trail/Mount Rose Area
A quiet, moderate trail with forest, creeks, and gentle elevation. It feels remote yet is still easy to reach from Reno.
Chickadee Ridge via Tahoe Meadows
One of the most popular snowshoe outings, known for open meadows, rolling terrain, and incredible views. Often packed down, making it easier for first-timers.
Mount Rose Trail
A more challenging route with steeper sections and bigger alpine scenery. Perfect for those wanting a longer adventure with stunning mountain views.
Spooner Lake/Tahoe Rim Trail/Marlette Lake
Beautiful Tahoe Basin terrain with options that range from mellow lakeside loops to longer, more varied routes that climb into the forested hills.
