Simply put, "Afternoon Tea (also known as High Tea)," a British tradition introduced in the 1840s by the Duchess of Bedford, Anna, was a means to bridge the gap between meals and tame hunger.  

Though there are subtle differences between "High" and "Afternoon" Tea, they have evolved to be used interchangeably as restaurants have found it easy to put the two in the same category for advertising purposes.

Today, tea is enjoyed as an occasional indulgence, a way to catch up with special friends, and is used to celebrate special occasions. 

Whatever the reason for tea, you can expect to delight in a lovely and cozy setting in which conversations happen naturally over dainty sandwiches, premium loose leaf teas, and fine pastries.

I am so thrilled that we have a legit tea service here in Reno provided by Bouchee Confections, a craft chocolate shop created and owned by Natalie, a passionate local chocolatier/pastry chef that's trained in France and has years of experience working in professional settings.  When I think of what makes our town the "Biggest Little City," it's places like this that come to mind - places that contribute offerings and serce rivaling that in bigger cities like San Francisco.

At the foundation of all that comes out of this shop is quality ingredients, special training, creativity, passion, and patience.  Natalie consistenly strives for excellence in all she does, always customizing recipes to the season, while taking customer feedback and tailoring menus according to fan favorites.

The amazing thing about Bouchee Confections is that High Tea is just one of the many incredible offerings at this delightful shop. Whether you’re stopping by for a latte, matcha, handcrafted dessert, bonbon, some gelato, or an artisanal gift from the shelves, you’re guaranteed great service, quality products and delicious products.

I’ve been visiting this shop for years, and Natalie, along with her team, has always been so welcoming and patient with me and my little ones from day one. Being the curious person I am, I can’t help but ask her questions about her craft, especially when something truly wows me (which happens often, HAHA!). Natalie has always been so gracious and happy to share her knowledge. She works tirelessly to ensure her customers have a wide array of desserts to choose from, and it’s a level of dedication that often goes unnoticed.

It's super important to note how Natalie spent countless hours managing the shop on her own in the past during its beginnings, especially during the pandemic.  She's come such a long way and worked so hard all these years to keep this dream and shops of hers alive and well.  And after what seemed like an eternity of obstacles and setbacks, Natalie has officially landed a 2nd larger kitchem she intends on using to create more concotions the whole community can enjoy.

So, here I am, sharing my gratitude for this incredible shop and the work Natalie pours into it. I hope you’ll make it out to try some of the amazing treats at Bouchee Confections. Life truly feels sweeter with desserts (and people) that make your heart and tummy happy.

Their Strawberry Chocolate Pu'erh tea was BEYOND tasty.  What I love about their teas is how falvorful they are.  If you have some experience with tea, you'll probably know how they can sometimes be weak and flavorless.  Their is the opposite.

My service included a piece of divine chocolate, a delicious housemade shortbread cookie, a moist and flavorful scone, a beautiful chocolate-covered strawberry, and a gourmet housemade marshmallow.

What is Clotted Cream? 

The best thing you can spread onto your made from scratch scone!

Clotted cream is a thick butter made from heavy cream that's been baked for a long time in an oven.  With its long baking time comes the most flavorful type of thickened, earthy, and nutty kind of butter that has bits of explosive flavor in every bite.  

My service came with lemon curd and raspberry jam.  Both were so addicting, and, when added onto pastries with clotted cream, made for an explosion of flavor.

Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate - Crispy Chocolate Cookie Base, Chocolate Almond Sacher Cake, 66% Ecuador Origin Dark Chocolate, Cremeux Milk Chocolate Mousse, Dark Chocolate Glaze.  This is my most favorite dessert in all of Reno that I crave and dream about constantly.  This is every chocolate lover's dream come true.  The crispy chocolate cookie base is a game changer.

Strawberry Pistacio - Pistachio Financier, Strawberry Gelee, Mascarpone Vanilla Mousse, Red White Chocolate Glaze.  This is one of my favorites.  Delicate with so many layers of flavors and textures and supreme pistachio flavor.

Tropical (GF) - Coconut Dacquoise Cake Pineapple Vanilla Compote Mango Coulis Coconut Mousse Yellow White Chocolate Shell Vanilla Whipped Cream, Lime Zest.  This dessert is so refreshing with amazing tropical flavors.  If you're a fan of white chocolate and true tropical flavors, this dessert is for you.

The Kids Marathon Mile is an annual January event at LEGOLAND California, typically held on a Saturday during Carlsbad Marathon weekend. It gives kids and families the chance to run or walk a fun, 1-mile course through LEGOLAND before the park opens to the public.

I'll just say it: I LOVE LEGOLAND.

I don't know where or when exactly my love for theme parks grew, but I do know that I've always appreciated life and all that it has to offer, always seizing the day and maximizing the fun wherever it can be found, especially with the people I love. And what better place than America to take advantage of fun, where the craziest visions come to life and some of the smartest, most passionate, talented, and most creative people turn imagination into experiences that bring joy to millions? Theme parks are where engineering, storytelling, creativity, and a little bit of childhood magic come together to create something that feels almost intangible and undeniably magical.

LEGOLAND has always held a special place in my heart. I have been bringing my kids here since they were babies, watching them grow from little LEGO builders into kids with very specific opinions about which rides we absolutely cannot skip. I respect that every family has its own ideas about when to start visiting theme parks with their children, but as for me, I wouldn't take a single visit back. Those trips have become some of the most precious moments to date, memories that I believe have helped nurture my kids' curiosity, creativity, and free spirits.

Of course, there are countless other activities you can do with your children that can create those same meaningful connections. But I also believe there is something to be said for simply having fun together while your kids are young. I have had just as much fun as they have, whether they remember every ride or not. I will remember it. And perhaps that is part of the magic.

After countless visits, I have learned a thing or two about navigating the park, finding the best rides, tracking down the good food, and knowing exactly where to go when everyone needs a break.

Whether you're planning your family's first visit or returning for another round of LEGO filled fun, I want to share the things I've learned along the way. This guide includes my family's favorite rides, treats, play areas, tips, tricks, and little nuggets I've picked up from spending so much time here.  

While I present this as a guide, I realize it may not cover every detail or answer every question. LEGOLAND is always changing, and there is always something new to discover. I'll continue updating this guide as I learn more, so hopefully it can become a helpful resource for everyone as you plan your own LEGO filled adventure.

Most of all, I hope this guide helps you create some wonderful memories of your own. Now go build yourself an awesome day!

The Lego Movie Experience @ The Lego Movie World (#16 on park map)

LEGOLAND was made with littles roughly 2 to 12 years of age in mind, and it shows in the way the park is designed. In addition to rides, you'll find plenty of food options, entertaining shows, interactive attractions, playgrounds, LEGO building areas, shops, carnival games, character meet and greets, photo opportunities, impressive LEGO structures, performances, live music, magical holiday displays, and so much more. Though the park was created with younger children in mind, you'll find that it is a favorite among adults as well because of its thoughtful design, charm, creativity, and ability to entertain.

The 4 D theater, impressive LEGO displays, holiday decorations and performances, and interactive attractions such as NINJAGO, Kid's Power Tower, and Skipper School are just a handful of experiences that give the park a universal appeal. 

LEGOLAND is almost as large as Disneyland, at 128 acres compared to 160, yet it doesn't feel nearly as intimidating. A lot of that comes down to the park's layout, atmosphere, and crowd levels, as well as whether you're visiting the seasonal Water Park, which takes up a considerable portion of the property.

I cannot imagine life without LEGOLAND because my family and I have made so many wonderful memories here. My kids are now 8, 10, and 12, and I've had so much fun watching their interests evolve with them over the years. What excited them when they were little isn't necessarily what excites them now, and my most recent visit made that especially clear. My 12 year old has officially started to outgrow LEGOLAND, while my younger two still find plenty to love. It was a little bittersweet to realize that, but it also gave me an even better perspective on how much age and interests can influence your experience here.

Which brings me to one of the biggest things I think you should consider before planning your trip: the age of your children. If your child has already experienced all of the "big kid" rides at Disneyland, they may not be as enthusiastic about some of the attractions at LEGOLAND because they are generally less thrilling. I recommend visiting LEGOLAND while the kiddos are still young enough to be captivated by the rides, LEGO displays, play areas, and overall experience.

That isn't to say older children cannot have an amazing time here. In fact, some of my favorite parts of LEGOLAND have little to do with the rides at all. It's the LEGO creations, interactive experiences, themed lands, character encounters, and the simple joy of wandering around a park where just about everything has been built with imagination that make LEGOLAND special. The key is knowing what your child enjoys and setting your expectations accordingly.

Road Trip to Legoland From Reno

The drive from Reno to Carlsbad is a long but scenic road trip with plenty of interesting attractions and places to stop along the way.

When I am short on time, I usually make the drive to LEGOLAND overnight so the kids can sleep for much of the trip. It is fast, convenient, and saves us from spending an entire day on the road.

I have also made the drive several times during the day. While it takes longer and requires a little more planning, there are plenty of ways to make the journey enjoyable and stress free.

Packing plenty of food and snacks, bringing entertainment for the kids (maybe something new and exciting), and planning a few worthwhile stops along the way can turn the drive into part of the adventure rather than simply a means of getting to LEGOLAND.

If you are driving during the winter, be sure to check the weather and road conditions ahead of time so you can plan around snow and other potentially hazardous conditions. Check out my WINTER TRAVEL GUIDE for more information and tips for winter travel.

Of course, you can always fly into Carlsbad and save yourself the time and trouble of driving. With a family of five, however, flying is not always the most economical option for us. Besides, I grew up taking road trips, and I genuinely love them. For me, the journey is just as much a part of the adventure as the destination.

Major Stops from Reno to Carlsbad

Carson City

35 minutes from Reno

Stop by Paul Schat's Bakery for amazing soups, salads, sandwiches, and plenty of baked goods to take on the road. This is undoubtedly one of the best bakeries in our area and it is always filled with freshly made goodies. Their blueberry bagels are my favorite, and no one can touch their made from scratch coffee cakes. If you're lucky, you may even find something in their day old section, where select items are sold for 50 percent off. Just keep in mind that these items tend to sell out quickly.

Gardnerville

53 minutes from Reno

Stop by The Chocolate Shoppe for a sweet treat that will be the cherry on top of your road trip. My must try is Ashley's Bordeaux. Gardnerville is also a charming little town with plenty of shops and restaurants if you're looking to stretch your legs and take a break from the drive.

Coleville

Approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes from Reno

If you need a caffeine boost early in your drive, make a stop at Walker Coffee Company, a cozy local coffee shop right along US 395 in Coleville. They serve stellar espresso drinks, coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast burritos. They also serve Alpen Sierra Coffee, a Tahoe based brand that has been roasting coffee for decades.

The shop has a welcoming small town atmosphere, and you can also find local knick knacks, souveniers, and fishing gear inside. Imagine finding rad local coffee on a road trip...there's nothing better.

Bridgeport

2 hours, 5 minutes from Reno

Bridgeport is a charming small town with strip of about a handful of options for lunch & shopping, along with hiking and camping opportunities nearby (popular with outdoor lovers). There is also a Shell gas station (No dogs alloweed. $$$), making it a convenient place to stop for fuel and a quick break.  When in town, you gotta check out some of their coolest local shops - Grouse House (resembles, and is actually inspired by our Natural Selection shop) & Sierra Strange, a quirky specialty shop, art gallery, and coffee stop.

Lee Vining

2 hours, 33 minutes from Reno

Lee Vining is the gateway to one of Yosemite National Park's entrances, Tioga Pass, which typically closes during the winter because of snow. The town has a couple of gas stations along with several restaurants and lodging options. If you catch it at the right time, visit the local museum near the park, which is also a nice place to stop for a picnic and break.  If you're feeling especially adventurous, don't pass up the Mono Basin History Museum, Upside Down House, Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center, and South Tufa, a popular attraction on the Southern shore of Mono Lake featuring otherwordly exposed limestone tufa towers that grew entirely underwater.

Mammoth Lakes

3 hours, 4 minutes from Reno

Mammoth Lakes is similar to Lake Tahoe in terms of its beauty and high elevation alpine setting, but it sits at a significantly higher elevation, giving it a different feel and character. If you have time to stop in this town, or even spend a night or two, it will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your trip.

One thing I love about Mammoth Lakes is its relatively small size and the fact that it isn't too far from the main highway, about 7 miles or a 10 to 15 minute drive. It also has its own version of “Heavenly Village,” with a ski resort and activity center offering things to do year round.

If you make a stop in Mammoth, I highly recommend the Lakes Basin Scenic Loop. It offers stunning views and can be accessed from a main road in town. One of my favorite parts of visiting Mammoth is riding the free trolley, which travels throughout town.

If you're feeling adventurous, you can also visit one of the nearby hot springs, ride the gondola up the mountain, or visit Devils Postpile, an incredible natural rock formation created by volcanic activity.

Bishop

3 hours, 37 minutes from Reno

Bishop is a larger town with plenty of places to eat, stay, and stock up on supplies. Here you'll find the sister bakery to Paul Schat's called Erick Schat's Bakkery. Paul and Erik are brothers, and both bakeries offer an impressive selection of food and baked goods. The Bishop location is much more popular, so expect longer lines.

Gojira is a sushi restaurant along the main road and is surprisingly good for a town this remote. Prices are a little higher, as you might expect, but it is worth a stop if you're craving a proper meal or some sushi in the middle of a long road trip.

Lone Pine

4 hours, 35 minutes from Reno

Lone Pine's Visitor Center is a nice place to stop, with restrooms, a small museum, interesting information about the area, and a gift shop filled with unique items. You'll also find exhibits about nearby hikes and places of interest. If you're traveling with children, be sure to ask about a junior ranger activity book before heading out to explore.

From here, stop by Alabama Hills to explore the unique rock formations, then continue up the mountain on the approximately 15 minute drive to Whitney Portal, the gateway to Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States. You can park near the waterfall, take in the mountain scenery, and watch as hikers and campers prepare for their adventures.

LEGOLAND Hotel California and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel are located just steps from the entrance to LEGOLAND California. Perks include a complimentary hot breakfast buffet, early access to select rides before the park officially opens, nightly entertainment, and other special amenities for hotel guests.

My #1 Tip to Make the Most of Your Trip

Fastrack Pass

If you're looking to maximize your time at LEGOLAND, especially during the busiest times of the year, you may want to consider purchasing a Fastrack Pass.

Fastrack replaced LEGOLAND's former Reserve & Ride program in February 2026. Instead of waiting in the regular standby line, Fastrack gives you access to a dedicated priority queue at participating attractions, helping you spend less time waiting and more time enjoying the park.

There are currently four levels of Fastrack, with prices starting at $20 per person and going up to $119 per person. Prices can vary depending on the date, so I recommend checking the price for your specific visit before purchasing.

Bronze: From $20 per person

Bronze gives you one time Fastrack access to three rides from a selection of 14 attractions. This could be a good option if there are only a few rides you really want to prioritize. There are no time slots, so you can use your Fastrack whenever you're ready during your visit.

Silver: From $38 per person

Silver gives you one time Fastrack access to six rides from a selection of 16 attractions. Like Bronze, there are no assigned time slots, giving you more flexibility throughout the day.

Gold: From $89 per person

Gold is the option to consider if you want to ride as much as possible. It provides unlimited Fastrack access to participating attractions all day, allowing you to use the priority queue as many times as you want.

Platinum: From $119 per person

Platinum includes unlimited Fastrack access to 16 participating rides, along with one time Fastrack access to the three LEGO Galaxy attractions: Galacticoaster, G Force Test Facility, and Launch & Land.

Which Fastrack Should You Get?

Personally, I think Bronze or Silver makes the most sense if you want to save some time without spending a huge amount of extra money. They allow you to choose the rides you want to prioritize while leaving plenty of time for everything else, including shows, LEGO displays, play areas, shopping, snacks, and meals.

If your goal is to conquer as many rides as possible, Gold is probably the better choice because you can use Fastrack repeatedly throughout the day.

Platinum is geared more toward visitors who want the most comprehensive ride access, particularly if experiencing the new LEGO Galaxy attractions is high on your list.

Keep in mind that Fastrack is not available on every ride, and participating attractions are subject to availability and temporary closures.

My Personal Experience

I previously purchased the Deluxe Reserve & Ride Pass during the holidays, before LEGOLAND replaced the program with Fastrack. I was extremely happy with how much time we saved, and it made a noticeable difference during one of the busiest times of the year.

Since the system has now changed, I would not use my old Deluxe experience as a direct comparison to the current Fastrack options. However, my experience taught me that having some type of priority ride access can be especially valuable when you're visiting during a busy season and LEGOLAND's operating hours are limited.

If you're visiting during a busy holiday period, I would seriously consider budgeting for Fastrack. Spending a little more to reduce your wait times can allow you to experience significantly more of the park during your visit.

Wait times for rides in the regular queue are always sooooo long.

Awesome Rides at Legoland

Comprehensive List of Rides

***One of the newest additions to LEGOLAND California is LEGO Galaxy, an all new space themed land that takes guests beyond the stars and into a world of LEGO inspired cosmic adventure. The land features three attractions, including a family friendly indoor roller coaster, an interactive space experience, and a ride designed especially for younger builders. It is one of the park's newest major additions and gives LEGOLAND a completely different kind of adventure to explore.

I have not experienced LEGO Galaxy personally yet, so I cannot give you my usual firsthand review or tell you which attractions my family would choose to ride first. However, I wanted to include it in this guide because it is such a significant new addition to the park and something families planning a visit should know about.

Galacticoaster

Location: LEGO Galaxy

Riders must be at least 36 inches tall

Galacticoaster is one of the newest and most exciting additions to LEGOLAND California. This indoor roller coaster takes riders on an intergalactic adventure through LEGO Galaxy. It is a great choice for older kids and adults looking for a little more excitement while still keeping the ride family friendly.

G Force Test Facility

Location: LEGO Galaxy

Riders must be at least 40 inches tall and 4 years old

G Force Test Facility takes riders on a space themed adventure with twists, turns, and plenty of movement. This is another great option for kids who are ready for something more thrilling.

Launch & Land

Location: LEGO Galaxy

Riders must be at least 34 inches tall

Launch & Land is a family friendly attraction that gives younger riders the chance to experience the excitement of LEGO Galaxy. Riders under 48 inches must be accompanied by a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old and 48 inches tall.

Safari Trek

Location: Explorer Island

Riders must be at least 34 inches tall

Fastrack available

Safari Trek is one of the most popular rides at LEGOLAND and is almost always busy when I visit. Climb into a safari jeep and take a leisurely trek through beautifully landscaped scenery filled with LEGO safari animals. It is a fun, family friendly ride that gives you a chance to slow down and enjoy the surroundings while spotting all of the LEGO animals along the way.

Coastersaurus

Location: Explorer Island

Riders must be at least 36 inches tall

Coastersaurus is a fun family coaster nestled in a jungle like setting. It has just enough speed, twists, and drops to get both kids and adults excited without being overly intense. The ride travels through the prehistoric themed landscape and makes two circuits around the track, making it a great first coaster for younger riders.

Fairy Tale Brook

Location: Explorer Island

Riders under 40 inches must be accompanied by a rider who is at least 14 years old and 48 inches tall.

Fairy Tale Brook is a peaceful boat ride that takes you along a gentle stream past charming LEGO displays inspired by favorite childhood fairy tales, including The Three Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk. The beautifully landscaped surroundings and abundance of greenery add to the magic, making this one of the most relaxing rides in the park. My family enjoys riding it on every visit, especially when we need a break from the more energetic attractions.

Fairy Tale Brook is so charming and peaceful.

Emmet's Flying Adventure

Location: The LEGO Movie World

Riders must be at least 40 inches tall. Riders under 40 inches must be accompanied by a rider who is at least 14 years old and 48 inches tall.

Emmet's Flying Adventure is one of the most popular rides in the park. Climb aboard a Triple Decker Sofa and soar through a wonderfully imaginative LEGO world. Similar to Soarin' at Disney California Adventure, your seat moves in front of a massive dome screen, creating the sensation that you're actually flying.

The combination of the moving seats and 4D effects, including wind, water, and even scents, makes this ride feel incredibly immersive. It is truly a one of a kind experience and one of my family's must rides at LEGOLAND.

Once you strap in, the whole row turns around 180 degrees toward the theater dome, where you'll find yourself dangling way up high in the air. 

Coast Cruise

Location: The LEGO Movie World

No minimum height requirement when riding with an adult

Coast Cruise is located in the heart of the park and is another must ride for my family on every visit. It is a great way to slow down, relax, and enjoy a different perspective of Miniland USA, where you'll find impressive LEGO recreations of iconic places such as Las Vegas, San Francisco, and so much more. The combination of amazing LEGO displays and a humorous skipper makes this a surprisingly entertaining ride for the whole family.

Unikitty's Disco Drop

Location: The LEGO Movie World

Riders must be at least 40 inches tall. Riders under 40 inches must be accompanied by a rider who is at least 14 years old and 48 inches tall.

Get ready for plenty of laughter and screams as Unikitty sends riders bouncing up and down with unexpected drops. Watching the reactions of riders around you is almost as entertaining as the ride itself! For younger children, Beetle Bounce in Land of Adventure offers a smaller version of the drop ride and is also tons of fun. Beetle Bounce is for riders between 36 and 55 inches tall.

This is one of those rides that is guaranteed to bring lots of laughs.

LEGO NINJAGO The Ride

Location: LEGO NINJAGO World

Riders under 48 inches must be accompanied by a rider who is at least 14 years old and 48 inches tall

This is one of the most popular rides at LEGOLAND and a favorite in my family. Ride in a four person vehicle and help the LEGO NINJAGO heroes defeat the bad guys as you move through multiple interactive scenes. After your ride, check out the gift shop for your score and ride photos.

Driving School

Location: Fun Town

Riders must be 6 to 13 years old

How awesome is it that LEGOLAND has its own driving school where kids can drive their own LEGO vehicles through realistic streets complete with lanes, traffic signs, and stop signs? Each rider receives a fun paper driver's license after the ride. 

A professional driver's license with a photo taken by a LEGOLAND photographer and a LEGOLAND lanyard is also available for purchase at the booth near the Driving School.

Junior Driving School

Location: Fun Town

Riders must be 3 to 5 years old

It is pretty wild and entertaining to watch kids as young as 3 drive their own LEGO vehicle. Junior Driving School features a smaller course and shorter ride time than the regular Driving School, making it a perfect introduction for younger children. It gives little ones a chance to experience a little taste of independence and pure freedom behind the wheel.

Sky Patrol

Location: Fun Town

Riders must be at least 34 inches tall

Climb aboard your own LEGO aircraft and use the controls to move up and down as you spin around the ride. It is a simple but surprisingly fun attraction that appeals to both younger children and adults.

Kid Power Tower

Location: Fun Town

Riders must be at least 40 inches tall

Kid Power Tower adds a little physical challenge to the ride. Pull yourself up to the top to get a great view of the park, then let yourself drop back down before repeating the process. It is a fun attraction for kids who enjoy being active and getting involved rather than simply sitting back for a ride.

Skipper School

Location: Fun Town

Riders must be at least 34 inches tall

At Skipper School, you get to take control of your own boat, making this a favorite among kids and families. Unlike many theme park rides, the boats are not on a track, so you actually steer the boat yourself. The boats move at a relaxed pace, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the ride while practicing your skipper skills. It is a fun, interactive attraction that gives kids a chance to be in control from start to finish.

The Dragon

Location: Castle Hill

Riders must be at least 40 inches tall

We all dream of riding dragons, and LEGOLAND makes that dream come true with The Dragon, a fun family coaster that winds through a medieval LEGO castle. It may look intimidating at first, but it is a relatively gentle coaster that is great for kids who are ready to graduate to a bigger ride. The ride is fairly short, but it remains a favorite among many LEGOLAND visitors.

LEGO City: Deep Sea Adventure

Location: Castle Hill

Riders under 52 inches must be accompanied by a supervising companion who is at least 14 years old and 52 inches tall

Climb aboard a real submarine and travel underwater through an incredible LEGO seascape filled with sea creatures and hidden treasures. Kids can use the interactive treasure map to search for marine life and other surprises throughout the ride. It is a unique LEGOLAND experience and a fun choice when you need a break from the faster rides. Ride time is short.

Royal Joust

Location: Castle Hill

Riders must be at least 36 inches tall and between 4 and 12 years old

Royal Joust is one of the most unique rides at LEGOLAND. Kids climb aboard a LEGO themed horse and gallop around a medieval themed course filled with beautiful landscaping. It is a fun experience that lets kids feel like they are knights on an adventure.

LEGO Technic Coaster

Location: Imagination Zone

Riders must be at least 42 inches tall and 4 years old

LEGO Technic Coaster is one of the more thrilling roller coasters at LEGOLAND, with plenty of twists, turns, and drops to get your heart racing. The sharp turns are especially fun and can make you feel like you're about to fly off the edge. If your kids are ready for a bigger coaster, this is definitely one to put on your list.

Dune Raiders

Location: Land of Adventure

Riders must be at least 36 inches tall

Dune Raiders features six side by side lanes where you can slide down in a sack and race your family and friends to the finish line. The slides are surprisingly steep, making this a fun and thrilling experience for kids and adults alike. During off peak times, my kids love riding down the slides multiple times in a row.

The family can't get enough of this ride.  The slide is surprisingly steep enough to give you thrills.

Cargo Ace

Location: Land of Adventure

Riders under 36 inches must be accompanied by a rider who is at least 14 years old and 48 inches tall

Cargo Ace was one of my favorite rides when my kids were around 36 inches tall. Adults can ride too, making it a fun option for the whole family. The ride travels around an oval shaped track with some fun, unexpected turns at each end.

DUPLO Little Dino Trail

Location: DUPLO Valley

Take a gentle ride through a prehistoric world filled with adorable baby dinosaurs. Along the way, you'll spot colorful dinosaurs, lush scenery, and plenty of fun surprises. It's a sweet, easygoing adventure that's perfect for LEGO-loving little ones and younger riders.

Lost Kingdom Adventure

Location: Land of Adventure

Riders must be at least 30 inches tall

Battle mummies, snakes, and skeletons as you search for the treasure of the Lost Kingdom. You'll use a laser blaster to shoot targets throughout the adventure, which can be surprisingly challenging because the ride moves pretty quickly.

Pirate Reef

Location: Pirate Shores

Hop aboard a pirate boat and prepare for a big plunge into splash territory. There is a good chance you'll get wet, especially if you sit toward the front, so this is another great ride for hot weather. I recommend bringing a change of clothes or a towel if you plan on riding.  

Playgrounds

LEGOLAND stands out from other theme parks because of the number of awesome, themed play areas throughout the park. If you're a regular theme park visitor with children, you've probably already learned how important free play can be in creating a well balanced day of fun. These areas give kids a chance to run, climb, explore, and burn off some energy between rides.

Hideaways

Location: Castle Hill

Hideaways is a medieval themed playground with a multi level design featuring tunnels, slides, bridges, and ropes. It is one of my favorite play areas at LEGOLAND and a great place to let the kids play while taking a break from the rides. Grab some delicious Granny's Apple Fries nearby and enjoy them before or after playtime.

Meeting new friends is always part of the fun.

Fun Town

Fun Town is the perfect place to find something for the whole family and an ideal spot to let the kids enjoy some free play. Here, you'll find several fun playground structures with slides, as well as attractions like the LEGOLAND Express and Kid Power Tower. The LEGOLAND Express is available to riders who are at least 36 inches tall, with no minimum height requirement when accompanied by a rider who meets the height requirement. Kid Power Tower requires riders to be at least 40 inches tall.

Pharoah's Revenge 

at Land of Adventure

This is a fun 2-level play structure filled with thousands of foam balls (with ball shooters) located in a cool Egyptian themed land.  A favorite among kids.

I remember the first time I experienced Pharaoh's Revenge and thinking how cool the theming was. At Pharaoh's Revenge, kids get the green light to shoot foam balls at one another as they make their way through this fun, interactive play area. It is a great place for kids to burn off some energy while having a few laughs along the way.

Cole's Rock Climb, Kai's Spinners, and LEGO NINJAGO Training Camp Playground

Location: LEGO NINJAGO World

LEGO NINJAGO World was already a hit with kids thanks to Cole's Rock Climb and Kai's Spinners, but the addition of the LEGO NINJAGO Training Camp makes this area even more exciting. The large, multi level playground gives kids even more room to climb, explore, and burn off some energy between rides. It's a great place to let children play freely while parents take a little break.

Benny's Play Ship

This play structure is in the middle of Lego Movie World and is an ideal spot for the kids to play during meal times.  Grab a table in front of Everything is Ramen restaurant so you can enjoy your food and a break while watching the kids play.

Other Amazing Attractions

4-D Lego Movie 
This theater regularly shows entertaining 15 minute movies, with the lineup changing from time to time. The theater features a huge screen, impressive sound effects, and 4D effects such as water and wind that make the experience immersive. There is also a concession stand right outside the theater, making it a convenient place to grab a snack before the show. It's also a great place to escape the heat and relax for a bit during the summer.

You must check out one of these shows.  They're always fun and entertaining, especially with all of the added effects that make the experience immersive.

Miniland USA 
A must see attraction that showcases millions of Lego bricks formed into impressive iconic scenes from around the world, including Las Vegas, the White House, San Francisco, New York, and so much more.

Moving holiday display at Miniland.  Miniland is one of my favorite parts of Legoland with its many awesome and impressive displays featuring the most iconic spots in USA.

Mini Figure Trading 

If your child is into Legos, they may be interested in mini figure trading.  Just bring a mini figure (or two, or three) to trade at any of the many trading areas scattered around the park.

The possibilities are endless with mini figures.  This is a great hobby to start and a great way to get some quality interaction with staff traders.

Emmet's Super Suite

Stop by Emmet's suite to meet some of the most popular characters from the Lego Movie.  This attraction is tucked away in a corner of The Lego Movie World and is often overlooked by visitors.  Also in the same building are fun and amazing displays from The Lego Movie. 

One of the things that sets Legoland apart from other theme parks is their genuine and fun character meet and greets.  My 3 kids had an unforgettable 3 minute interaction with Emmet after taking this picture.

You can't miss The Lego Movie experience located in the same building as Emmet's Super Suite.

LEGOLAND Water Park

LEGOLAND California's Water Park is a great way to cool off during the warmer months and features a variety of attractions for different ages, including water slides, interactive play areas, LEGO building activities, a lazy river, splash areas for younger children, and cabanas available for an additional fee.

The Water Park is seasonal, so be sure to check the operating calendar before your visit. It is located inside LEGOLAND California, meaning you must have admission to the main theme park to access it. Water Park admission is an additional charge unless your ticket or pass specifically includes it. You can purchase a Water Park upgrade when buying your tickets or add it separately, subject to availability.

If you are visiting with younger children and don't want to purchase the Water Park upgrade, there are also smaller splash areas throughout the main park that can provide a way to cool off without an additional Water Park ticket.
SEA LIFE Aquarium

SEA LIFE Aquarium

SEA LIFE Aquarium (included with most tickets) is located right next to the entrance of LEGOLAND California, making it an easy addition to your park day. The 20,000 square foot aquarium is home to more than 5,000 marine animals and features underwater viewing areas, interactive exhibits, LEGO displays, educational experiences, and plenty of opportunities to get an up close look at marine life.

One of the things I love about SEA LIFE is how interactive it feels. You'll find colorful LEGO displays throughout the aquarium, fun facts and educational information, hands on exhibits, underwater viewing areas, and plenty of marine life. It does a great job of making learning about the ocean fun and engaging for children without feeling like you're walking through a traditional museum.

I think SEA LIFE is worth seeing at least once, especially if you're paying an additional cost for admission. My family visits the aquarium every time we go to LEGOLAND because it has simply become part of our tradition.

It's also a wonderful way to end your LEGOLAND day. After hours of rides, walking, noise, and excitement, SEA LIFE offers a much calmer and slower paced experience. Wandering through the aquarium, watching the fish and other marine life, and taking in the underwater exhibits can be surprisingly relaxing. If your kids still have some energy but you're ready to wind things down, it can be a nice, peaceful way to end the day.

The Interactive Rockpool is especially fun for children & adults alike because they can get hands on with certain sea creatures while learning from educators. Depending on the day and schedule, you may also find special talks, feeding demonstrations, and other educational experiences.

For an extra special experience, SEA LIFE also offers select animal encounters and feeding experiences for an additional fee. Depending on availability, these may include opportunities to get closer to certain marine animals or even participate in a shark feeding. These experiences should be booked in advance through the SEA LIFE website, so if this is something your family is interested in, I recommend reserving your spot before your visit.

There's also an activity for children to participate in throughout the aquarium where kids look for specific creatures, facts, or exhibit information and collect stamps as they progress. It gives younger kids something fun to do while they're learning about the marine life.  

I recommend allowing at least an hour if you want to see the main exhibits without rushing, although you can easily spend longer here if your children enjoy stopping at each interactive experience.

At the end of the SEA LIFE Aquarium exhibit, you'll find Ocean Journey Cafe, where you can grab food and drinks. You do not need to visit the aquarium to dine at the cafe, making it an option even if you're just looking for a quick bite.

SEA LIFE Aquarium is a separate attraction at LEGOLAND California, but admission is included with certain ticket options, including LEGOLAND Hopper tickets. Depending on the ticket or package you purchase, you may be able to visit LEGOLAND Theme Park and SEA LIFE Aquarium with the same admission. Standalone SEA LIFE Aquarium tickets are also available if you only want to visit the aquarium.

Ticket options, prices, and packages can change, so be sure to check the current admission choices before your visit. If you are planning to visit both LEGOLAND and SEA LIFE, compare the available ticket options because a combination ticket may be the better value.

Where to Eat

*Knights Smokehouse (#56 on map, Castle Hill) has all of your barbecue favorites, including sausages and ribs. You must try them! I'm not as excited about their desserts, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with the chocolate chip cookie. The restaurant is set up like a quick service buffet, with many items prepared ahead of time. Because of this, some dishes can occasionally be on the dry side. I recommend visiting around opening time or during a busy period when the food is likely to be replenished more frequently for the freshest selection.

*Everything Is Ramen (#18 on map, The LEGO Movie World) is a convenient option, especially since it sits right in front of Benny’s Play Ship playground. The ramen is decent, although it comes with udon noodles rather than traditional ramen noodles. It may not be the most authentic ramen you’ll ever have, but it does come with nicely cooked pork belly, enoki mushrooms, a soft boiled egg, and bean sprouts. The portions are on the smaller side, so this probably isn’t the place to go if you’re looking for a particularly filling meal. The same goes for the rice bowls.

You can also stop in just for snacks, including dried seaweed, chips, fruit, sugar cookies, Rice Krispie treats, and other desserts. It’s a handy spot to remember when the kids need a quick snack.

Vegetarian Tofu Ramen was okay.  Portion is on the smaller side.

Menu as of 1/2023

*Granny's Apple Fries (#54 on map, Castle Hill) are a favorite among LEGOLAND fans and a treat I recommend trying at least once. The “fries” are made from Granny Smith apples that are sliced, fried, and coated in cinnamon sugar, then served with a side of whipped cream for dipping. They are made to order, so you get them fresh and warm, which is a big part of their appeal.

Some people may be disappointed by the portion size, but I always get them when I visit because they have become part of my LEGOLAND tradition. There's something about enjoying these warm, crispy apple fries while walking around the park that makes the experience feel extra special.

Granny's Apple Fries are always a must.  Fresh deep fried apples coated in cinnamon sugar and served with fresh whipped cream.  Note: portion is on the smaller side.

*Churros Con Chocolate (#51 on map, Castle Hill) is another popular treat at LEGOLAND. The churros are made from scratch and sold from a cart. They are undeniably fresh and have a great texture, although I think they could use a little more cinnamon sugar and a lot less grease. 

Tip: If yours happens to be especially greasy, you can gently blot them with a paper towel to soak up some of the excess oil.  Their regular churro at their stand is actually pretty good as well.

Churros came big in two "half sticks" but could use more cinnamon flavor and were a bit oily.

*Pizza Mania (#78 on map, Imagination Zone) is a satisfying and convenient option when you're looking for a filling meal. While it may not be the best pizza I've ever had, the quality is good for a theme park. I recommend the Garden Pizza if you're a pesto lover and the Supreme if you prefer something loaded with meat. The pizza sauce has great flavor, and the crust reminds me of a soft breadstick.

Their Kids' Kit comes with half of a personal sized pizza, chips, a snack, and a drink. It’s a great option for younger kids, or even adults looking for a smaller, lighter meal.

For dessert, grab a few Sweet Street gluten free Rice Krispie treats to enjoy later or keep on hand for a snack. 

If you're looking for an all you can eat option, head over to Pizza & Pasta Buffet (#71 on the map, Imagination Zone), which includes all you can eat pizza, pasta, salad, and drinks. Again, expect decent quality food with a high price tag, but the amount of food you get makes it a pretty good value, especially if you have hungry kids or big eaters in your group.  

Garden Pizza was yummy and came with a base of pesto instead of pizza sauce.

When to Visit Legoland

Crowd Calender

Summers, September through December, and spring break are among the busiest times of the year to visit LEGOLAND. Visiting on a weekday during peak times generally means smaller crowds and shorter ride lines, although park hours are typically shorter on weekdays, and not all attractions, entertainment, and experiences may be available.

If you're a no frills kind of person who just wants to enjoy the park and its regular offerings, I suggest visiting during the off peak months. With a little planning and effort, you can still enjoy the park during major breaks and holidays while reaping the benefits of the festive and seasonal offerings, programs, and atmosphere.

That said, don't let the crowds during the holiday season scare you away. LEGOLAND decks out the park with so much magic and cheer that September through December is one of my favorite times to visit. Beautiful decorations, holiday characters, seasonal food, fun dance performances, live bands, and a festive atmosphere make the extra crowds feel worth it.

Peak or off peak, Fridays are my preferred days to visit because the park is typically in full swing with extended hours, while crowds can still be manageable.

If you're on a tight budget, there's not much difference in distance with preferred and regular parking.  $35 vs $25

Notes & Tips

Unlimited Drinks Collector Cup: The Unlimited Drinks Collector Cup is currently $23.95 and includes unlimited soft drink refills for the day. You can pick one up at The Market near the front entrance and refill it throughout the park at participating locations, including The Market, Urban Kitchen, Smokehouse, and Castle Ice Cream. Refills are limited to one pour every 10 minutes.

Get the Family Excited Before the Trip: I like to hype my kids up with LEGO movies, books, and anything LEGO related before our trips. It makes the experience even more exciting when they recognize characters and places throughout the park.

Tickets & Deals: Buy tickets online in advance for the best pricing, as rates vary by date and availability. Compare one day, multi day, Resort Hopper, and Annual Pass options to find the best value for your visit. Military families may qualify for discounted tickets, and LEGOLAND regularly offers seasonal promotions. Be on the lookout for Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, which can offer discounts on tickets, Annual Passes, and vacation packages.

Expectations & Meeting Spot: If you're visiting LEGOLAND with a group, don't rely on everyone simply knowing where to meet if someone gets separated. Before heading into the park, establish a meeting spot and make sure everyone knows how to contact one another. A group text or chat is especially helpful if your group splits up for different rides or activities. For families with older kids who may wander independently, consider giving them a designated meeting location and making sure they have a way to reach you. A little planning ahead can save a lot of stress if someone gets lost or separated.

Download the LEGOLAND app: Be sure to download the official LEGOLAND California app before your visit. You can use it to access park information, maps, ride information and wait times, entertainment schedules, character meet and greet information, tickets, and Fastrack options. I recommend downloading it before you arrive so you are ready to go as soon as you enter the park.

Fastrack: LEGOLAND replaced its former Reserve N Ride program with Fastrack in February 2026. Fastrack gives you access to dedicated priority queues at participating attractions and can be purchased through the app. There are currently four levels, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, with prices starting at $20 per person. If you are visiting during a particularly busy time of year, this is something I would seriously consider.

Unlimited photos: LEGOLAND currently offers a 1 Day Unlimited Digital Photo Package ($39.99) when purchased online. It includes unlimited digital photos from select rides and photo locations throughout the park. An annual option ($83.99) is also available if you plan to visit more than once. Friends, I'm not usually a sucker for these kinds of souveniers, but Legoland's photo package is really a steal. You get tons of silly & priceless photos that come in all sorts of different formats - some with themed framing, some animated, and even some with sounds. Current Photo-enabled rides & Opportunities: Welcome sign in front of park, Explore River Quest, Duplo Little Dino Trail, Coastersaurus, The Dragon, LEGO Technic Coaster, Lost Kingdom Adventure, Deep Sea Adventure, & LEGO NINJAGO's green screen photo, among others.  Tip: Make sure to find your way to a worker at the end of your ride for help in pairing all of your groups photos to your pass.

Outside food: Outside food and beverages are generally not permitted, with exceptions for water, individually wrapped small snacks that do not require heating, baby food, and food needed for medical or specific dietary needs.

Coffee and snacks: You can grab coffee, pastries, drinks, and snacks near the front entrance at The Market.

Carnival games: Carnival games are scattered throughout the park, including areas such as Castle Hill, Explorer Island, and LEGO NINJAGO World. Keep in mind that these games cost extra.

Strollers & wheelchair Rentals: Strollers and wheelchairs are available for rent near the front entrance. If you have lots of bags, I would be cautious about hanging them from the back of a stroller because too much weight can make the stroller unstable or cause it to tip.

Guest Services: Guest Services is located near the entrance and can help with questions, tickets, accessibility needs, and other visitor concerns.

Military discounts: LEGOLAND offers military ticket options and discounts through eligible military programs. My dad is a retired Navy veteran, and we have personally purchased discounted tickets through the military base.

Parking: Standard parking currently starts at $40 per vehicle, while Preferred Parking starts at $45. RV and camper parking starts at $45, and valet parking starts at $55. In my experience, there isn't a huge difference in walking distance between some of the parking options because the parking area is not enormous, but Preferred Parking does put you closer to the entrance.

Summer water play: If you are visiting during the summer but do not want to purchase a separate water park ticket, there are still places where kids can cool off. Look for splash areas near Benny's Play Ship and in Pirate Shores. Pack a change of clothes, water shoes, and a towel if your kids are likely to take advantage of them.

LEGOLAND hotel: If you want the full LEGOLAND experience, consider staying at the LEGOLAND Hotel or LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, both located right at the resort. Depending on your reservation, hotel stays can include perks such as breakfast, early park access, and special entertainment and activities.

LEGOLAND is cashless: LEGOLAND is a cashless park, so bring a debit or credit card or use a mobile payment option. If you arrive with cash, the resort has options for converting it into a prepaid card at designated locations.

Check seasonal events before you go: LEGOLAND has seasonal celebrations and special events throughout the year, and the entertainment schedule can change depending on when you visit. Check the current events calendar before your trip so you can plan around any special shows, decorations, character appearances, or activities you do not want to miss.

Limited Hours: One of my biggest tips is to check the operating hours before you visit. LEGOLAND does not stay open as late as Disneyland, so your day can go by surprisingly quickly. If you are visiting during a busy period, prioritize your must ride attractions early and consider Fastrack if you want to maximize the number of rides you can experience.

Bring layers & Wear Proper Footwear: Carlsbad weather can be beautiful, but temperatures can change throughout the day, especially in the morning and evening. I recommend bringing layers that you can easily remove and carry once it warms up. Proper footwear is a must. Choose comfortable, supportive walking shoes rather than sandals or anything you're not used to wearing for long periods.

Breaks: LEGOLAND is designed for families, so there are plenty of places to slow down when everyone needs a break. Don't feel like you have to spend the entire day rushing from one attraction to another. Take time to explore the LEGO displays, let the kids play, grab a snack, and enjoy the little details throughout the park.
