The Ultimate Reno Summer Guide 2026: Local Events, Things to Do & More
Certified Unreal
Rest easy, Oliver. <3
Hiya Friends,
OMG, summer crept up like how villains creep up on innocent characters in movies, LOL. I totally was on top of my spring guide and published it way before spring arrived, but lo and behold, time somehow slipped away from me with this summer guide (hey, 2 days late is not bad at all, especially for Filipino standards, LOL) again while I was out filling my thrill and adrenalin bucket. If you're wondering, the buckets are overflowing and good till the end of the year, LOL.
Now, summer... I'll admit that I'm more of a cold/gloomy weather kind of person, but boy does Reno/Tahoe make it soooooo easy to enjoy any summer, whatever temperatures may come our way.
First of all the Truckee River runs right through our city. You can literally claim one your own little hidden spot along the river and spend the entire summer there like a pro fisherman without having to be one. We also have plenty of creeks to splash around in without ever having to leave town, and Lake Tahoe is so stinkin close you can practically smell the pine trees from Reno... or maybe that's just my pine scented air freshener deceiving me, LOL.
Honestly, living here sometimes feels like one never ending summer vacation.
And no matter how hot summer days get we can usually count on cooler evenings once the sun goes down - another thing I love about Reno.
We get the convenience, affordability, and amenities of the city (& might I add, a pretty special one), while one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the world is less than an hour away. Together, Reno & Tahoe create a lifestyle that's hard to find elsewhere. And I can't be the only one who feels this way, right?! At least the Reno Envy folks catch my drift.
Did I mention our other neighboring towns that feel like their own complete vibes, including Genoa, Gadnerville/Minden, Markleeville, Virginia City, Washoe Valley, Carson City, and who knows what other spots I'm missing. You can find adventure in any direction!!!
Summer 2026 is expected to be hot, sunny, and dry, with June warming steadily into a typical Reno summer. July and August are forecast to bring frequent 90 degree days, occasional triple digit heat, and plenty of opportunities to escape to Lake Tahoe's cooler waters.
Yes, summers can be uncomfortable, but can you imagine feeling defeated and paralyzed by a season, just hiding out for months waiting for the heat to die down (or waiting in winter for the heat to come back)? It doesn't sound appealing, does it? If you look all around you, there are countless ways to beat the heat and enjoy the season. We're literally living in the most convenient slice of life, loaded with all the gadgets, places, and treats that can help change your perspective. I know, it would be so convenient to have a pause button for life, but the reality is - it doesn't exist. You can never get time back no matter how hard you try, so it's important to make the most of every moment!
My advice is to harness your inner creativity (we all have it within us) and use it to embrace the season (or every other season for that matter). For summer, specifically, take advantage of Reno’s hidden escapes, high elevation hikes (they tend to be cooler), events & festivals (many of which are free), late night hangouts, workshops, shows, shaded parks, creeks & splash pads for the kids, quick Lake Tahoe getaways & adventures, and of course, icy treats and eats that help keep you sane.
On US‑50 (Lake Tahoe Blvd), just east of the Airport Road intersection. It’s on the right (south) side of the road as you drive in. Head east on US‑50 from downtown South Lake Tahoe (~2 miles).
Below, you'll find a curated list of events, many of them beloved local favorites, along with a summer bucket list to keep you busy, along with some of the best swimming spots, pools, and waterfront hangouts to help you make the most of the season.
Many events have limited tickets (especially with our growing population fighting for them), so if something catches your eye, snag those spots asap. Also, stay tuned as I update my list throughout the summer with events I've missed or pop up at later times. For those who like to plan ahead, check out my comprehensive list of events on the right side of this blog.
With our unique local identity & community, landscape & high desert climate, there are endless possibilities for adventures whether you stay close or venture out.
This post is a reflection of my love for our amazing city and the people who make it rad. In other words, it's not sponsored.
Here's to long days, warm nights, and a summer (& life) well spent.
Peace, Love, & Kindness.

I met Addison on the streets of Virginia City during the Street Vibrations Festival while on 3.5 hr. layover with theV& T Railway (this ride is so epic). He’s insanely talented and easy going.
Did you know Reno has its own rad local radio station? 🎙️ KWNK 97.7 FM is non-commercial and completely volunteer-powered, amplifying music, ideas, and local voices 24/7. Tune in & support community radio.

SUMMER BUCKET LIST
Gear up for life's adventures at Reno's one and only local used gear shop with Gear Hut. I discovered them a while back at a fundraiser event at Galena Visitor's Center. I remember winning a $25 Gear Hut gift card and being so excited to have discovered a more affordable place run by super kind mega adventurers who contribute so much positivity and good to the community.
-Beach Days: Enjoy the sun, water, and beach vibes at one of the many amazing beaches in Lake Tahoe. Make it a whole day affair and bring some good company & a picnic. Round Hill Pines & Lakeside Beach for limited crowds (fees (somewhat) regulate crowds). Visiting on weekdays is prime if you have that kind of flexibility. Regan Beach, El Dorado Beach, King's Beach, & Commons Beach all have playgrounds, restrooms, & nearby eats.
Icecycle Creamery. Come here for the most unique & adventurous flavors in town. Sandwiches & soups also available. Run by an awesome owner, Jose. Locally owned.
-Cold Treats
*Black Rock Dessert - The milkshakes here are so fun & epic, made with house-made ice cream. Their made daily house baked goods are also tasty. The owners of this shop, Marlon & Lesly, are seriously some of the nicest in town
*Ruby's shake shop - Here you'll find some of the most delicious & flavorful shakes ever, made with real ice cream. Their burgers and other offerings are also great. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's across the street of UNR. If you're up for a short walk, Rancho San Rafael Regional Park has tons of free parking and is only about .5 miles away (or a 12- 15 minuet walk).
Cosmo's Snack Bar - Dole whip & other specialty soft serves made from scratch. Fun toppings included. When paired with some of the best pizza in town, you just can't complain about a thing in the world. Check out this happy hour menu. It's "sneak out of the office early worthy," LOL. Oh, and Margherita Mondays at $11/$16 all day is a steal because they have one of the best versions in town.
Gotta double check these prices to make sure they're up to date. BRB.
Thania's Organic Juice Bar - Incline Village, Lake Tahoe. Most of Thania's food and drinks are made with organic ingredients. Smoothies, cold pressed juices, acai bowls, lattes, and eats like peanut butter banana honey toast, quinoa bowls, and tortas (Mexican style sandwiches) available. Love Thania and her family so much. They're always so kind and welcoming. Located in Christmas Tree Village Shopping Center next to so many other great eateries and shops.
*Everbowl - I love this shop for their wide variety of bases that are super delicious and well balanced. Choose from pitaya, acai, coconut, cocoa, spirulina, and mango. They also offer one of the best spreads of toppings around. Pay an extra $1 and build your own bowl (so worth it). Practically a meal. Locations in Sparks & Northwest Reno.
*Tahoe Natural Cafe - Tahoe Pops (craft popsicles), fresh pressed juices, smoothies, & acai bowls. They also have a full menu of other nourishing foods like sandwiches, soups, & salads. Super classy spot that's great for families, meetings, and hangouts. Kid's play section included.
*Elixir- organic juices, smoothies, acai bowls, and fresh savory bowls. Next door to RareTea, one of the best boba shops in town.
*Icecycle Creamery - Try the most unique craft flavors here like Thai tea and mango sticky rice. Make it a foodie adventure and snag one of their flights. They also have yummy sandwiches & soups. Love the owner of this shop.
*Rolled Mountain Creamery - Top 3 ice cream spots in town (local). Freshness & quality guaranteed. Cream sourced locally & ice cream made right in front of you. Tip for the adventurous: exercise your creativity & add any of the chocolate bon bons from Dorinda's (located in the same shop) to your ice cream concoction.
*Little Truckee Ice Creamery - another top ice cream spot and a necessity of any epic summer. Truckee Trails always kills me with its flavor. And they always have a non-dairy option on hand (coconut based or a sorbet). 1st brick n mortar located next to Donner Lake (a prime alternative summer spot to Lake Tahoe). Trailers located in downtown Truckee and Tahoe City (next to Common's Beach). New location in Northwest Reno now open.
*Handel's - Makes their ice cream daily in tons of flavors. Can't decide what to get? They have a rad, affordable 4 flavor sampler available. Owned & run by rad women who give back to the community in so many ways.
*Great Basin Co-op - Tahoe Pops & other clean cold treats available in frozen section. Cutest local grocery shop/hangout spot in town. Organic when possible. Their outdoor patio is a fun and amazing place to hang around year-round.
*Yogurt Beach - service is always friendly, flavors fun, & toppings endless. Don't forget your stamp card.
*Shaved Ice - Vampire Ice has amazing shaved ice desserts and is owned by a good friend. Follow Trinka on Instagram for updates on pop-ups. The Sno Flo (Carson City) - has a really fun menu and always brings the falvor. Snoasis -food truck (Reno) - Ice more on the traditional, course side. Local & kind service.
*Gelato - Bouchee Confections Handmade by a talented chocolatier. Rich & creamy. Subtle on the sugar. Gina's Cafe located in Scheels, Bibo (so fire!), Cafe Espresso at the Peppermill (open 24/7)
*Mexican Treats - Paletas de Angel - palletas, agua frescas, churros. Anotjitos Colibri - shaved ice, ice cream, agua frescas, elotes, and tons of other Mexican snacks. Axohelado - palletas & agua frescas (Carson City). La Chiquita Market in Reno has some of the best housemade agua frescas in town that come in so many flavors. A new favorite: Frankie's Fruit Bar - catch them in the afternoon when their taco truck is parked out front. Their food is just as bomb as their snacks and cold treats.
*Misc Non-alcoholic & Non-caffeinated - Sip of Saigon (Sparks) has a fun non alcoholic drink menu. Black Rabbit Mead Company has an impressive mocktail & hand pie menu on top of chill lounge vibes, events, and live entertainment. Coffee N' Comics is one of the best hangout spots in town that has a fun menu filled with caffeinated & non caffeinated drinks, including their popular fruity pebble, Reese's, & Oreo frapps. They also have alcoholic beverages, board games, and Super Nintendo for customers.
Agua frescas (fruit waters) from Paleteria de Angel. They're super fresh, but don't skimp on the sweetness. Let your ice melt for a more balanced agua fresca.
-Hiking:One of Reno’s biggest draws is its endless access to the great outdoors, and there’s absolutely no shortage of it. This incredible natural beauty is a huge part of why I love this city so much.
-River Tubing: Float down the Truckee River for a relaxing and fun summer activity. Lots of people like to start at Mayberry Park & Verdi & finish at Wingfield Park (about 3.5 miles, 2-4 hrs.).
There's a new Truckee River float experience in town - Float Reno, returning 2027. I haven't tried them out yet, but it looks like a good time.
-Mini Golf: Magic Carpet Golf on South Virginia St. is a charming, old-school spot that's tons of fun, featuring beautiful landscaping and plenty of shade trees. Coconut Bowl in Sparks offers a small indoor neon-lit course and a much larger outdoor course that has structures that remind me of Disneyland. Their unlimited wristband is the best deal if you plan on staying the whole day (attractions open 12pm daily during peak summer days). Wristband includes unlimited go-cart rides, laser tag, mini golf, bowling, jungle gym time, & XD Adventure Theater. King's Beach Miniature Golfis a favorite in Tahoe City due to its prime location next to King's Beach and Tahoe Time ice cream, as well as its beautiful course shaded by beautiful evergreen trees. Heavenly Village transforms its skating rink to a fun mini golf courseevery summer.
Tahoe-Pyramid Trail. 114 miles. The views here are spectacular! Great for hike or biking.
-Cycling: Explore the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail, the longest trail in Reno (114 miles) that follows the Truckee River from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake. Great starting points in Reno: Mayberry Park, Idlewild Park, Crissie Caughlin Park, or GSR. Check out this detailed trail map guide of biking trails in our area, made by Rich, owner of Great Basin Bicycles. He also does bike repairs like a boss and strives to get your bike back to you as quickly as possible.
-Bird Watching: Summer is great for bird watching at Virginia Lake Park, Damonte Ranch Wetlands, Swan Lake Nature Study Area, Rosewood Nature Study Area, & Washoe Lake State Park.
-Outdoor Movies: Watch films under the stars at the West Wind El Rancho Drive-In (Sparks) or outdoor movie nights at various parks around the city. One of my favorite summer traditions is the annual "Movies on the Beach" series at Commons Beach.
-Plan Fall Adventures: Start planning fall trips to nearby destinations like Lassen Volcanic National Park, Hope Valley, Apple Hill, Yosemite National Park, Hope Valley, & Fallen Leaf Lake.
-Farm Visits: Annual Sunflower Festival at Andelin Farm (returning August 19th) . U-pick flowers and tons of activities for the whole family. Get your barn dance on this summer at our very own Ferrari Farms. BOA Vista Orchards in Apple Hill (about 2.2 hrs from Reno) is open year-round & throws so many different food themed festivals throughout summer & fall. Follow Apple Hill's Instagram for updates on opening dates in the fall, along with tips, and suggestions. Also, check out my Apple Hill guideon my blog.
-Water Activities: Rent a kayak or paddleboard in Lake Tahoe. Weekdays, early mornings and evenings are the best times to avoid the crowds. Prime rental spots: Vikingsholm Castle, Sand Harbor, King's Beach, Zephyr Cove, Meek's Bay, Common's Beach, Lakeside Beach, & El Dorado Beach. All options are family-friendly. Note: Vikingsholm lot fills up almost instantly in the mornings and stays full throughout the day. And the trek down to the castle & beach rentals is 1 mile from the lot. Starting July 15, 2025, roadside parking will be restricted. Shuttle service will be available to and from North and South Lake Tahoe.
-Swimming Spots: GSR has a nice poolthat's open to the public. Purchase a day pass in person to save some $. Enjoy a full menu & music and entertainment on select days throughout the summer. The new indoor swimming fitness center on Moana has 2 swim sections available - one for lap swimming & one for tots & families. Huge outdoor hot tub available for 18+. I love Bower's Mansion for it's vibes and location. Their renovated pool includes a splash pad for littles. Snacks, beverages, and ice cream available for purchase. Check out my blog post to learn more about this spot. The Atlantis and The Peppermill both have cool intimate pools, but don't offer public access. Outside guests can purchase spa treatments/passes and gain access to the pools.
-Places to splash around: Huge boulder water splash zone at Outlets at Legends next to H&M, Cyan & Idlewild Park (FREE). Includes some shaded seating under trees. Nearby attractions - Scheels & Galaxy Theaters. Bob McFadden Plaza, Carson City (FREE); Lazy 5 Regional Park, Bower's Mansion ($). Waterpark at Wild Island has a huge waterpark. Note: season passes sell out fast every year, so be sure to subscribe to their newsletter to stay up to date on the latest news.
-Local Music: Reno has an abundance of talented, lively, and inspiring musicians. Check out The Reno Scene and Bandsintownfor the latest concerts and performances in town.
*Yosemite National Park(3.5 hrs. from Reno):Renowned for its stunning granite cliffs, waterfalls, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Closest entrance from Reno - Tioga Pass. Heads up - I've heard that it's been crowded lately due to the lack of staffing and the reservation system. Bonus: The Yosemite Tioga Pass entrance is only 50 mins. from Mammoth Lakes, a small town with a tons of beauty (sorta like another Lake Tahoe). In town, the Village at Mammoth is their equivalent to our Heavenly Village. You can ride the scenic panoramic gondola here for much affordable rates (12 & under free) and enjoy their very fun adventure center tailored for little ones. There's also the free trolley rides around town, unreal views of the lakes, bike paths, camping sites, fun dining options and additional attractions in town, and the very popular Devil's Postpile to add to your adventure.
*Virginia City: (27 mins. from Reno) Step back in time to the Old West with historic buildings, museums, and scenic views of the Comstock Lode. After all these years, I'm still shocked to be living so close to such a special town. I'm truly head over heels (or boots) for VC. Catch the hilarious & talented VC Outlaws & watch them battle it out in the Wild West, hunt some bears down at the shooting gallery & walk through a year-round haunt at Sawdust Trails, tour an actual haunted mansion (turns into the best haunt in October), tour an actual mine at the Ponderosa, enjoy a donkey ride with some epic canyon views at Desert Rose(such nice folks), take a round-trip, unreal scenic ride on the V & T from Carson City To VC, enjoy all the food & drink in the best setting, and catch one of the endless fun events going on year-round in town. Head to the visitors center for all the details and save some money when you opt for an adventure bundle.
DAVE is the most hilarious and knowledgeable conductor ever to exist on the round-trip train ride from Carson City to Virginia City on the V & T Railway. Tip: If you plan on embarking on this magical journey, make sure to sit next to your guide to hear the fascinating history of the area. Their speakers could use an upgrade.
Lake Tahoe: (48 mins.-1.3 hrs. from Reno) Explore Lake Tahoe for endless outdoor adventures - beaches, hiking trails, breathtaking lake views, and more. It’s just a short drive from Reno, typically 40 minutes to 1.3 hours depending on your starting point. The drive never feels long because it’s so scenic. A must-visit spot multiple times each summer. Not a fan of crowds? Visit during locals' summer - the window after Labor Day and before the first snowfall.
Unique South Lake Tahoe Experience
@tahoestarcharters, commissioned by Bill Harrah in the past, is notoriously known for its history with entertaining tons of celebrities - Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, & Robin Williams, to name a few.
It's the only charter in Lake Tahoe that offers tours to Thunderbird Lodge, an impressive historic estate built in the 1930s by eccentric millionaire George Whittell, a man known for his undeniable love for fast boats, fast cars, and fast girls.
The tour is without a doubt, one of the coolest and most unforgettable experiences to date. First of all, you have the experience, and most importantly, the people who bring that experience to life. The views, the vibes, the story, & the company...everything was well though out, and the Tahoe Star team were stars, to say the least. I was truly honored to be invited to experience it firsthand.
The charter is also available for private events. Seriously, if you're looking for some advice in life - gather all of your friends (up t0 30), split the cost, and enjoy an adventure of a lifetime.
NOTES

Ikeada's is one of my favorite pit stops on 80w on the way to Sacramento. Their tuna poke bowl is so fresh and so clean... but heads up: it's heavy on the arugula & carrot. Toss those extra veggies in a burger. If you're thinking about purchasing one of their pies, they're on the sweeter side, but undoubtedly fresh & easily tamed with a a serving of ice cream/whipped cream. I prefer their cold pies, which I think are much more balanced. Purchase whole or by the slice.

How she finds them is a New York City coming-of-age story you've never felt before – HELL’S KITCHEN, a new musical from 17-time Grammy® Award winner Alicia Keys, whose new songs and greatest hits about growing up in NY inspire a story made for Broadway.
Rebellious and stifled by an overprotective single mother, Ali is lost until she meets her mentor: a neighbor who opens her heart and mind to the power of the piano. Set to the rhythm of the 90s, HELL'S KITCHEN is a love story between a mother and daughter. It's about finding yourself, your purpose, and the community that lifts you. Come remember where dreams begin.
Hailed as a New York Times Critic’s Pick that is, “thrilling from beginning to end – a rare must-see!" HELL’S KITCHEN is directed by four-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif, with choreography by four-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown, a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, and the music of Alicia Keys.
HELL’S KITCHEN is recommended for ages 8 and up and contains some strong language and moments with mature themes."

"The mission of The Great Reno Balloon Race is to provide a premier, safe, family-oriented/tourist-attractive, visually dramatic event that celebrates the joy of flight while remaining free to the public.
The Great Reno Balloon Race is the world’s largest free hot-air ballooning event. From its humble beginnings in 1982 with just 20 balloons, The Great Reno Balloon Race has taken flight with up to 100 balloons each year. The idea was to create an event that would keep visitors in town the weekend between the State Fair and the Reno Air Races and 44 years later, it is known as a world-renowned, and locally, a beloved community tradition.
Taking place just a few miles north of downtown Reno at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park, the event enchants both young and old with its vibrant colors and inspiring music. The Great Reno Balloon Race has won many awards over the years, including ‘Best Special Event in Reno’ and ‘Best Special Event in Northern Nevada.’ With an average of 150,000+ spectators attending the event each year, the number of lives touched by the beautiful spectacle continues to rise just like the balloons themselves."

"Singer/songwriter Wellington Bullings is a powerhouse of soulfulness and emotional depth. Her sultry vocals draw inspiration from Soul & Jazz pioneers of the 60’s & 70’s era. Her music transcends genre, conveying an elegant and refreshing sound that is deeply rooted in Soul and enriched by Jazz undertones. The poetic nature of her lyrics lend itself to the folk world, revealing a soundscape of storytelling that is fiercely original."
"Join us on the lawn at Brewery Arts Center for a special outdoor summer screening, where surf vibes, sunshine, and cinematic history collide. We’ll warm things up with Looney Tunes: Hawaiian Aye Aye (1964)—a breezy, cartoon beach romp that sets a fun, carefree tone before the tide turns. As night falls, grab your blankets and beach chairs for Jaws (1975), Steven Spielberg’s legendary thriller that forever changed suspense, sound design, summer releases, and how audiences experience movies together.
Come dressed for the beach, soak up the summer atmosphere, and experience the film that made moviegoing an event—and made everyone think twice before going back in the water.
This event is free to the public, timing is TBA
