Miyabi Sushi, South Reno - There's a New Sushi Restaurant in Town and It's Hot Stuff

They have the BEST nigiri.  Don't take my word for it.  You must try for yourself.
Can you guess which one is my favorite?  Haha

13967 S Virginia St spc 910
Reno NV 89511
(775) 409-3520

***They are currently very busy with everyone wanting to try them out.  Getting here a little early and bringing some patience will do you good.  In time, I'm sure they will adjust staff accordingly.

Miyabi Sushi is on another level with sushi that's so delicious, you won't think twice when figuring out whether you like it or not.  Miyabi is your ticket to Flavortown and is arguably the best sushi in Reno.

Carefully crafted with the best ingredients and in a way that's perfectly balanced, their sushi is out of this world and should not be missed.  I would imagine a restaurant like this in San Francisco so busy, they would always be booked out ahead of time.

I'm feeling a little spoiled having this restaurant at the tip of my fingers in South Reno, especially right next door to my family's favorite theater, Summit Sierra located in Summit Mall.

I love that their menu isn't busy compared to other restaurants with a limited selection of rolls, but includes enough options that highlights their amazing fresh fish and is more than enough to leave you satisfied and wanting more.  A fellow Yelper got to chat it up with the chef and found out that he will be adding new concocotions in the future.

You'll also find ramen options, well-known hot plates (chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, pork tonkatsu), appetizers, combination platters (different combinations of rolls+nigiri), and desserts.  I cannot tell you how excited I am for the day I get to try everything else.

I went here yesterday to celebrate my dear dad's birthday and the chef was more than willing to create another delicious vegetarian roll on top of the amazing Vege roll already on the menu to accommodate his dietary needs.

Every single item we ordered was so good.  The nigiri was the best I've had in town, with little toppings on some that highlighted the fish.  I am excited to try their Toro (fatty tuna) and uni (sea urchin) when available. The server, Selena, said they get their food in around Tuesday, so I'll make sure to get there in time to catch them.  The appetizers were nicely presented and were top-notch in quality.  The Fire Ocean and Ryu (dragon) were addictive.  Even my father's vegetarian rolls were the bomb!

Miyabi is unlike all of the other sushi restaurants in town, offering all you can eat.  I am guessing that because they don't offer this option, they can focus on providing the best quality of food without losing profit.  I am a person that lives for food and will sacrifice some new clothing and such to be able to buy some good quality food and Miyabi is the type of restaurant I would do that for. Haha.

Their restaurant was previously Bap cafe (Korean rice bowls), which I will miss dearly, but I'm glad to know they still have a location downtown.

The inside was nice and clean, with four tables that each seat four, a bar area that seats four, two tables outdoors that each seat four-five, and a few random bar tables around the restaurant that seat two-three.
The ambiance was great, with cool instrumental music of the biggest hits on the radio playing in the background. Outdoor seating is available and service was nice and friendly.  Our server, Selena, was so patient and kind with my three little kids (2, 5, and 6 years old) who were a little rusty with their manners due to covid.

From start to finish, everything me and my family ordered was outstanding and we are so excited to be coming back for more.  If you're into sushi, do yourself a favor and come on in before the secret gets out.

Parking is plentiful and they close during their transition to dinner at 2pm. I believe they open back at 4pm, but I will need to call to double-check.

*If you're looking for all you can eat sushi that offers amazing sushi, Hinoki is definitely the one.

Mt. Rose is sushi perfection topped with light tempura fried onions

Dragon Roll (Ryu) was the bomb!

Fire Ocean was FIRE!

The moment I tasted this ice cream, I couldn't wait to tell the whole world about how amazing it is and immediately set out to write a review on Yelp.

Little Truckee Ice Creamery has all of the basic flavors (made with class, for sure), with some unique gourmet ones thrown in.

I love that they serve out of a truck located in a parking lot in beautiful Downtown Truckee and also have a charming location close to Donner Lake.

Though it may get busy during the weekends at their Downtown location, there is plenty of street parking available nearby.

Blueberry Honey Lavender was super delicious and fresh, with the honey and lavender prominent and the blueberry subtle.  Each bite warranted a "YUM!"

Truckee Trails - pecan brittle and brownie in a sweet ice cream- was OUT of THIS WORLD! The brittle was crunchy and so flavorful and paired well with the brownie and sweet ice cream. Not to mention, I've never even had brittle in ice cream.  I could eat a whole tub of this ice cream in one sitting.

I tasted my kid's Mountain Top Mint Chip and Cookies & Cream, both fresh and delicious.  These two flavors are me and my husband's favorite go-to flavors, and I approve of them.

From cooking at home all the time, I know that something simple could be elevated just by using the best ingredients. Here they do just that, but also do it in a way that's perfectly balanced (something not easy to achieve).

In addition to flavor, they've achieved the thing I look for in every ice cream - great texture.  Full-bodied, smooth, creamy with a cool mouth feel, and soft enough to enjoy.

Topping options include: brownies, cookies, coconut, chocolate/caramel sauce, nuts, cherries, chocolate chips.

There was one vegan flavor available-roasted coconut, which was yummy because they kept it simple, with a coconut milk base, toasted coconut, and chocolate shavings... a flavor combination you can't go wrong with.  Any Almond Joy lovers in the house?

There are a few tables located at the back of the truck and one in front.

There are also many other places around Downtown Truckee where you can enjoy your ice cream.  The walk downtown is absolutely fun, with lots of ramps, things to climb on (for kids), little shops, great views, and fresh air from the evergreens surrounding the area.

Me and my family visited the shop after a long and fun day at Donner State Memorial Park ($10 day use fee), which was only a few miles from here.  At the park, it's beyond scenic, with water sport rentals available, happy trails, lots of shaded patches of beach, picnic areas (BBQ), and the option to camp.  Little Truckee Ice Creamery ended up being the little ice cream truck that was the biggest cherry on top of our day.

Update 7/24/2020

I went back and tasted Toffee Chip, Chocolate Brownie, Vanilla, Salted Caramel, Strawberry Lemonade, and Spooner Strawberry.

All the flavors were super clean and fresh with Salted Caramel making a big impression and Strawberry Lemonade tasting super refreshing and yummy.  The chocolate flavor in Chocolate Brownie was super sophisticated with the homemade brownies adding another delectable layer of flavor and texture.

If you're celebrating a special occasion on your visit or just celebrating life in general, their brownie sundae is the ultimate treat.  It's huge so it's ideal for sharing.

Notes
-In a single, you are allowed two flavors.
-They have a mini option, which is great for kids and sampling.
-If planning on camping at Donner State Memorial Park, make sure to book your visit well in advance as the campsite books up fast.

Have a Good Old Fashion Burger and Milkshake at One of the Best Burger Joints in the World- Five Guys

*You can order online without having to make an account.  Milkshakes are made upon arrival. Skip the link and go straight to pick up and inform them of your online order.  Super convenient.
*They do not serve a veggie patty but they have enough toppings to make a decent veggie burger.  Double up the cheese.

I grew up on the West Coast in San Diego and as you've probably guessed, I'm a die hard In-N-Out fan.  The only burger I've ever known and cared for was the the "Animal Style" Cheeseburger (a regular cheeseburger with grilled onions, special spread and pickles added).  It was the burger that saw me through my childhood, through my ups and downs and would be the burger that would always have my heart.

During my two short years of living in New Jersey, I learned of the East Coast's go-to burger, Five Guys.  One day, I longed for an In-N-Out burger there were none to be found.  I was excited to find a temporary fix while away from San Diego so I went out and tried Five Guy's popular burgers.  I was blown away by this burger. It was substantial, it was huge, it was loaded and it was beyond fresh.  I didn't know that I would ever crave another burger than In-N-Out, but that was not the case.  Five guys is the only other burger I will dream about and crave because it's so good that it makes that kind of impression.

You can get crazy with customization or just leave it to them and "go all the way" with their set award winning combination of toppings- Mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, grilled onions, mustard.  Other topping options include: onions, fried onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A-1 sauce, Bar-B-Q sauce and hot sauce.  I could only imagine and dream about the other undiscovered award winning combinations out there.  I'm glad I have a lot of time to explore.

I thought wow, this burger is great, but then I hear from family & friends, "Wait, there's more!"  Yes, their sides of Cajun fries and milkshakes were equally as satisfying.  Great portion and great flavor, Cajun fries always hits the spot (with just the perfect amount of spice).  I love that they fry them in peanut oil and that they're always super fresh.  Though after sitting in a bag, you can see some oil seep through but that's why I like to share them with my family, so as to cut down on the fat.  If the fries weren't enough, they even serve milkshakes, that are without a doubt, super refreshing, true to their flavor, without preservatives and super delicious.

During my visits throughout the year, I always went directly for the burgers, but one day I saw their hot dogs on the menu and felt it was time to try them out.  Not only does Five Guys have award winning hamburgers, but yes, award winning hot dogs as well.  I had the plain hot dog with "all the way" toppings and I couldn't stop saying "Yum!" with each bite.  The dog was seasoned perfectly, not too salty (as lots of dogs are for me) and with no preserved taste at all.  I would encourage for everyone to try their hot dogs.

Service is very efficient at Five Guys.  They have a nice energy between their team, communicating and talking to one another to ensure the best experience possible.  I love that they are fast with food prep and hand off with confidence and a smile.

Five guys, along with In-N-Out, will always be among my top favorite burgers.  They're both different, but both so good so I can't choose a number one.  Last thing to note is that they have complimentary peanuts (self-serve).  Say What!?  As if the burgers, fries, and milkshakes weren't enough. I know...

Dazzle Your Taste Buds at Icecycle Creamery/Pedaler's Deli

Address:
6147 Lakeside Dr. Suite 102
Reno, NV, 89511
Directions

Hours, directions, and more reviews & pictures on Yelp
Website

Icecycle Creamery is my family's favorite ice cream shop in Reno because their ice cream is always interesting, refreshing, and downright delicious.  On top of ice cream, they serve delicious and fresh sandwiches, soups, and drinks, including beer.

I love that the owner, Jeremy, worked out of his own home to perfect his craft and started selling his wonderful creations out of a cooler placed at the back of a bike.  In 2014, he opened up his shop to share his wonderful creations with the world.  I see Jeremy at the shop all the time, working, and he's really cool (cool mustache, cool tattoos, and cool ice cream recipes).  His support for local businesses is also something to admire.

Now, on to the ice cream.  At first taste of their ice cream, the words ''Gourmet'' and "Chopped" came to mind. It seemed as if the creator of these flavors was given mystery basket ingredients and made successful ice cream flavors out of them. They're unique and delicious and would win grand prizes any day!

For mouth feel, I love that their flavors aren't overly creamy, giving them a nice cool, refreshing feel.

They have a few standard customer best-sellers, like Cookie Roulette, Chocolate, and Home Means Nevada, that are always in rotation and change out their other flavors, often with new flavors.  Some unique flavors you can find are Lemon Lavender, Horchata, Salted Caramel, Earl Grey, Salted Pretzel, Apple pie, Chocolate Truffle, Mango Cardamom, Lychee, Taro & Passion Fruit.  Because of the frequent changes in flavors, you may find a flavor you love and not be able to have it for a while.  Call in to see what's in stock.

They're so unique that they even conquered the well-known garlic ice cream that you can find at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.  At the most recent visit, I had a chance to taste it for the first time and it was so good!

When eating this ice cream, I don't feel guilty at all doing it. That's not to say that it's automatically healthy or healthier. It's just plain magical.  Maybe this magic has to do with the fact that they use all-natural, top-quality ingredients (local when possible) and create with passion.

What a great little shop that serves award-winning ice cream and sandwiches.

Notes:
-Pluses include a cute little waffle circle cookie they give on top and if you ask for a cup they give you a cute wooden spoon that just makes the experience much more enjoyable
-If you decide you like ice cream enough, you have the option of buying some by the pint or half pint to take home.
-Alongside their ice cream is a nice deli with hot and cold sandwiches + salads and drinks, including beer.
-Happy hour everyday 5-7pm $5 whole sandwiches, $3 craft beer, $2 single scoop
-Sandwiches currently served on weekends only. Try the Chicken Curry sandwich. So good. And don't forget to get a stamp card (only for sandwiches)
-if looking for a beautiful place to enjoy your treats, Bartley Ranch Park is located a minute away
